Private Adult ADHD Assessments-Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Will the Private Adult ADHD Assessment be similar to the one that would have been performed by Dr. G. Parhar? Who will perform the Private Adult ADHD Assessment?
The Adult ADHD Assessment will be very similar to the one that would normally have been performed under the MSP system. Detailed and extensive questionnaires are completed for ADHD/ADD as well as other psychological disorders such as depression and anxiety. There is also a detailed review of past medical history and educational history. An interview is conducted by means of telemedicine. The medical part of the assessment will be performed by a Nurse Practitioner who has been trained by Dr. G. Parhar. Nurse Practitioners are independent health professionals in British Columbia who may diagnose, treat and manage acute and chronic physical and mental illnesses. Both Dr. G. Parhar, the Adult ADHD Medical Director, and Dr. A. Parhar, the Adult ADHD Educational Director, will review your assessment forms, interview notes, your medical history, your educational history, your psychological history and the final summary consultation report, to ensure that it is of the highest quality possible. After the Private Adult ADHD Assessment a summary consultation report will be provided that summarizes symptoms, medical history, educational history, diagnosis and provides details about management including medication recommendations. These recommendations may be then implemented by the patient's family physician/nurse practitioner. |
2. How soon can I get an appointment?
The Adult ADHD Centre will endeavour to schedule an ADHD assessment within 2-3 weeks. If the appointment date is not soon enough for the patient's needs, the full paid amount will be refunded. The consultation report will be emailed to you. 3. Why is this charged privately and not covered under MSP? While physicians can directly bill MSP for patient health services, a Nurse Practitioner cannot bill MSP. The health services provided for this Private Adult ADHD Assessment are not covered by MSP. |
4. If not covered by MSP, will the private fee for the assessment be covered under my Extended Benefits Plan that I have through my work?
As each private Extended Benefits Plan is quite different, it is best that this be checked by the patient contacting their Extended Benefits Plan. The Adult ADHD Centre will provide a receipt which can then be used for reimbursement if this service is covered under a patient's Extended Benefits Plan. 5. Can I claim a tax credit for this fee when I file my tax return? Each patient's tax situation is quite different as it depends on income and other personal expenses, thus we would recommend this be discussed with an accountant. 6. If I pay for this Private Adult ADHD Assessment, do I still need to see Dr. G. Parhar for the MSP consultation? It is not necessary to see Dr. G. Parhar in consultation after the Private Adult ADHD Assessment as a consultation report will be provided that summarizes symptoms, medical history, educational history, diagnosis and provides details about management including detailed medication recommendations. These recommendations may then be implemented by the patient's family physician/nurse practitioner. |
7. If I pay for this Private Adult ADHD Assessment and still want to see Dr. G. Parhar for the MSP consultation, as referred by my physician/nurse practitioner, will I get to see Dr. G. Parhar any sooner?
While it is not necessary to see Dr. G. Parhar in consultation after the Private Adult ADHD Assessment, if you choose to still see Dr. G. Parhar you will be able to keep your original MSP appointment with Dr. G. Parhar. You will NOT be seen by Dr. G. Parhar any sooner or later because you have completed a Private Adult ADHD Assessment. 8. Who will get a copy of the consultation report of the Private Adult ADHD Assessment? After the Private Adult ADHD Assessment a consultation report will be provided that summarizes symptoms, medical history, educational history, diagnosis and provides details about management including detailed medication recommendations. A copy of this report is sent to you which you can then share with your family physician/nurse practitioner to begin your ADHD treatment. 9. What if I am not satisfied with the Private Adult ADHD Assessment? If, for any reason, you are not satisfied with your Private Adult ADHD Assessment, we will refund your entire payment to you. That is our promise to you. |
